Football, a few beers and … the aftermath of a DUI conviction

If you're an avid football fan (in Tennessee, hardly a select club), chances are you're not quite ready to cave in on the current NFL season, which has one game yet to go.

That is, of course, the Super Bowl, marked this upcoming Sunday by parties and celebrations across the country -- oh, yes, and the actual game to be played. Notwithstanding the Titans' nonparticipation in the affair, legions of viewers across the state will undoubtedly tune in to the game, just as some of them have annually about this time for the past 50-plus years.

There will be lots of gridiron action, lots of commercials, lots of eating and drinking … and more than a modicum of adverse interaction between Tennessee police officers/troopers and state motorists.

Super Bowl Sunday simply invites drinking, communally and on a mass scale. Some people clearly imbibe to flatly dangerous levels, while legions of others just consume a few beverages with friends or family member and don't realize that, in the eyes of law enforcers, they qualify as unlawful offenders.

Our law firm zealously defends individuals from both of those categories against criminal DUI charges that can yield materially adverse effects.

As we note on our website, a DUI conviction is Tennessee is "a big deal," on both Super Bowl Sunday and every other day of the year. Negative consequences encompass significant fines, a loss of driving privileges, compulsory attendance in a treatment course, higher insurance rates and, of course, time spent in jail.

Although those possibilities are always there, the spotlight on drinking and driving that emerges each year with the Super Bowl unquestionably magnifies the downsides.

Be careful out there. We wish all our readers who enjoy the Super Bowl each year to have a safe and happy experience.

And note: Our law firm is there for you if you need client-empathetic and knowledgeable legal advocacy to fully promote your legal rights against a criminal charge.
